Now There’s a Certification for It.
You know who you are. Somebody mentions that they haven’t been sleeping well and your brain immediately starts turning. Stress? What are they eating before bed? Are they getting sunlight in the morning? What medications are they taking? When did this start? What changed? You don’t necessarily tell them any of that. But you’re curious.
Someone complains about their stomach and instead of immediately thinking: “What makes stomach pain go away?” you wonder: “What’s making their stomach hurt?”
Someone tells you what worked for them, and you go home and research it. Then you find six other approaches. Then somebody tells you about a seventh. Before you know it, you’ve fallen down another natural-health rabbit hole, and it’s two o’clock in the morning.
Welcome.
You may already be a Natural Alternative Specialist. And now, there’s a certification for it.
The Natural Alternative Specialist Certification at St Pauls Free University is a 10-week live online program for people who want to take that natural curiosity and develop it into a more disciplined, responsible, and useful way of helping others.
Enrollment is now open for the class beginning October 6, 2026.
You Don’t Need to Know Everything
Let’s get this out of the way immediately. You will never know everything about natural alternatives. Neither will we. That’s actually one of the ideas behind the Natural Alternative Specialist Certification. There isn’t one book containing all the answers. There isn’t one perfect protocol. There isn’t one herb. One supplement. One diet. One practitioner. Or one philosophy that owns wellness.
Spend enough time in this field and you’ll discover: There are 200 ways to do a thing.
Maybe not literally 200. Sometimes there might be 2,000. The point isn’t the number. The point is that our job isn’t to memorize every answer. Our job is to become better at finding possibilities, investigating them, comparing them, and figuring out which ones deserve consideration for the actual person standing in front of us.
That’s a very different skill.
From Kitchen Cabinets to Controversial Alternatives
We’re going to cover a lot of territory. Some weeks we’ll investigate things so ordinary they’re probably sitting in your kitchen right now. Other weeks we’ll venture into areas of natural and alternative health that generate considerably more debate.
Good. We don’t need to be afraid of controversial information. We need to learn how to investigate it.
Across ten weeks, we’ll explore major areas including the body’s internal environment, microbes and contamination, muscles and nerves, sleep and stress, pain and recovery, digestion and elimination, parasites and gut health, everyday supermarket alternatives, food and nutrition, lifestyle, and much more.
But here’s an important distinction: This isn’t ten weeks of product pitches. Products are tools.
Natural Alternative Specialists investigate possibilities. When we encounter a particular product, substance, practice, or idea, it becomes a doorway into a much larger investigation.
- What is it?
- Why do people use it?
- What do we actually know about it?
- What don’t we know?
- What has traditionally been claimed?
- What does contemporary information tell us?
- What risks or contraindications deserve consideration?
- What other approaches might accomplish the same objective?
- Can the person actually obtain it, afford it, tolerate it, and realistically use it?
And perhaps most importantly: Is there a simpler reasonable option that deserves to compete? Because there may be 200 ways to do a thing.
The product is a tool. The method is the method.
We’re Going to Ask Better Questions
This may be the biggest difference between collecting natural remedies and becoming a Natural Alternative Specialist.
Someone tells you: “My hip hurts.” You don’t immediately reach into your bag and announce: “I HAVE THE THING!”
Slow down.
- When did it start?
- Was there an injury?
- What makes it better?
- What makes it worse?
- What else changed around the same time?
- What’s happening with movement?
- Nutrition?
- Sleep?
- Stress?
- Medications?
- Previous diagnoses?
- What has already been investigated?
- What has already been tried?
- Is there something here that deserves professional medical evaluation?
The goal isn’t to demonstrate how much you know. The goal is to become curious enough to discover what you don’t know.
That’s why Natural Alternative Specialists learn a repeatable process:
LISTEN → ASK → INVESTIGATE → OFFER → PROTECT → RESPECT → OBSERVE → ADJUST
It doesn’t tell you what answer you must reach. It gives you a way to investigate.
Your Experience Counts—But It Isn’t Everybody’s Answer
Natural-health communities are filled with extraordinary stories.
Somebody was terribly sick. They discovered something. Their life changed. Naturally, they became enthusiastic.
- Personal experience matters.
- Field experience matters.
- Traditional knowledge matters.
- Research matters.
- But so does humility.
If something changed your life, tell your story. Just remember: Your testimony is an invitation, not an obligation. Someone else may choose another path. Let them.
- Someone may trust their physician more than they trust natural alternatives. Love them anyway.
- Someone may combine conventional and natural approaches. Fine.
- Someone may ask one question about what you’re doing. Answer one question.
Don’t chase them down the driveway with seventeen supplements and a three-ring binder.
We’re here to help people. Not convert them.
Can This Person Actually Do This?
This is another question we’ll keep asking. Natural-health conversations can become remarkably sophisticated.
- The perfect supplement stack.
- The ideal diet.
- The expensive device.
- The elaborate protocol.
- Three preparations taken four times a day under very particular conditions.
Terrific. Except the person in front of you may be exhausted, overwhelmed, broke, traveling, caring for a spouse, working twelve-hour shifts—or simply unwilling to do it. Then your theoretically perfect solution may not be much of a solution at all.
So another principle enters the investigation: The best option has to survive real life. Potential usefulness matters.
So do:
- Safety.
- Capability.
- Accessibility.
- Affordability.
- Willingness.
- Sustainability.
Sometimes sophisticated deserves to win. Sometimes: SIMPLE GETS TO COMPETE.
A Natural Alternative Specialist doesn’t build the most impressive protocol. We look for the best workable next step. And if it isn’t workable? Recalibrate.
Natural Wellness Requires Participation
We’ll also talk about something natural-health advertising doesn’t always emphasize: This can take work.
Changing the conditions surrounding health may involve:
- Persistence.
- Different food.
- Different habits.
- Different schedules.
- Movement.
- Rest.
- Supplements taken consistently.
- Tracking results.
- Research.
- Testing when useful.
- Changing course when something isn’t working.
- Sometimes even changing significant parts of your life.
Because if you improve your health and then rebuild precisely the same conditions that surrounded the old problem, you shouldn’t automatically be surprised if old patterns return.
Don’t just change the condition. Change the conditions.
Natural wellness isn’t always about finding something magical to swallow. Sometimes it’s about becoming somebody who lives differently.
And Sometimes the Grocery Store Is Enough
Not everything we’ll investigate is exotic. In fact, one of the classes I’m particularly looking forward to is what we’re calling:
Supermarket Medicine
Walk through an ordinary grocery store with enough historical and natural-health knowledge and it starts looking very different.
- Foods.
- Spices.
- Herbs.
- Salts.
- Oils.
- Teas.
- Minerals.
- Honey.
- Ginger.
- Garlic.
And dozens of other ordinary things people have used in one way or another for generations.
You don’t necessarily need an obscure website and a $129 bottle to begin investigating natural wellness. Sometimes you need a grocery cart.
Again: Simple gets to compete.
Now We’re Taking It Into the Classroom
This is where the original version of this article used to say: “We’re building this together.” Well… We built it. The curriculum is complete.
The Natural Alternative Specialist Field Binder is ready. The certification program is ready. And enrollment is now open.
Beginning Tuesday, October 6, 2026, we’ll meet live online for ten consecutive Tuesday classes at 6:00 PM Pacific Time, concluding December 8.
And I want to emphasize live. Yes, every class will be recorded.
If you miss a session—or simply want to go back and hear something again—the recording will remain available inside your student dashboard.
But you’ll want to come live whenever you can. Because I don’t expect all the knowledge to come from the front of the classroom.
- Someone in class may have spent twenty years investigating something I’ve barely encountered.
- Someone may ask a question none of us considered.
- Someone may challenge an assumption.
- Someone may bring an idea into class that sends all of us down another rabbit hole.
Excellent. Then we get to use one of the most important sentences a Natural Alternative Specialist can learn: “I don’t know. Let’s investigate.”
The curriculum gives us somewhere to start. The people in the room make the class come alive.
What Kind of Natural Alternative Specialist Do We Want to Send Into the World?
- Not someone who believes they know everything.
- Not someone who diagnoses everybody they meet.
- Not someone who thinks “natural” automatically means safe.
- Not someone who believes their personal success story must become everyone else’s protocol.
- And certainly not someone practicing medicine without the appropriate license.
We want Natural Alternative Specialists who are:
- Curious enough to investigate.
- Humble enough to keep learning.
- Wise enough to recognize their boundaries.
- Careful enough to consider risks.
- Confident enough to share what they know.
- Compassionate enough not to force it on anybody.
- Observant enough to notice what actually happens.
- Flexible enough to recalibrate when reality disagrees with the plan.
That’s the Natural Alternative Specialist we want to certify.
